On 15th of May at the National Library "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" The Cultural Representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Bulgaria together with the Department of Iranian studies at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" organized a celebration
of the Day of the Persian Language and Hakim Abuʾl-Qasim Ferdowsi, the great Iranian poet. There were university lecturers, cultural figures, journalists, friends of the Persian language and culture.
At the opening of the conference, Mr. Mohammad Ali Kiani, Counselor for Cultural Affairs of the IR Iran, under the leadership of the Cultural Representation, welcomed the guests and shared: "The history of the cultural relations between Iran and Bulgaria, the necessity of raising their level, the deep acquaintance and understanding of our cultures, especially with regard to literature, require meetings between scientists and intellectuals from both sides - Iran and Bulgaria". Therefore, for this year’s celebration, were invited respected Iranian and Bulgarian teachers who could submit reports related to the Persian language and literature. Mr. Kiani also stressed that he hoped "this event to create a positive atmosphere for mutual cooperation, to broaden and deepen our bilateral relations". He expressed gratitude for the assistance of Dr. Marchela Borisova, Deputy Director of the National library "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" and the teachers of Iranian language in organizing the conference.
Dr. Rudabe Shah Hosseini, professor at the Tehran University, author of several books in the field of the Persian literature, came from Iran specially for the event and held an interesting lecture on "Names and Namings in Shahnameh". Reports on Persian language and literature were also presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivo Panov, Head of the Department of Iranian Studies at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the Society of Friends of the Persian Language and Literature, Dr. Morteza Nuray, visiting lecturer at the Sofia University and history professor at the Isfahan University, Mrs. Sirma Kostadinova, Assistant Professor of Persian Language.
At the end of the conference, honorary awards and gifts for their contribution towards the Persian language and literature were awarded to Assoc. Prof. Ivo Panov, Head of the Department of Iranian Studies at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reza Mehraz, Dr. Hadjir Fiuszi and Mrs. Lyudmila Yaneva, lecturers at the same university.
