On this day in 1963 was signed the Treaty of the Organisation for African Unity, converted in 2002 in the African Union. A special ceremony was organized in hotel "Sense" in Sofia to mark the 52 th anniversary of this event.
It was organized by the members of the Group of African Ambassadors accredited in Bulgaria, namely those of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan and South Africa, as well as representatives of the Honorary Consulate of Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Seychelles and Uganda. The event was under the patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs - His Excellency Mr. Daniel Mitov, and the theme: "Africa - Land of the Greatest Opportunities."
The guests at the reception were numerous. They enjoyed the rare chance to taste traditional African dishes specially prepared by the embassies for the occasion, to listen to live African music and enjoy the wonderful works of African art and crafts, beautifully arranged in an exhibition.
The celebration of the International Day of Africa is a reason for every African country to organize various events with the aim of contributing to the convergence of the African peoples on the one hand and on the other, the convergence of Africa with the other nations worldwide. This holiday is already a deeply rooted tradition and represents the symbol of the struggle of the entire continent for liberation, development and economic progress.
