On the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Poland – Constitution Day – Mrs. Anna Janiszewska-Frączek, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Bulgaria,
hosted a reception on May 12. The embassy’s garden and reception halls welcomed numerous guests, including high-ranking representatives of the Bulgarian national and local authorities, religious communities, the diplomatic corps, the non-governmental sector, academia and cultural institutions, the Polish business community in Bulgaria and the region, as well as members of the Polish diaspora.
Poles proudly celebrate their national holiday on May 3, marking the adoption of the Polish Constitution of 1791 — the first modern written constitution in Europe and the second in the world.
In her welcoming address, Mrs. Anna Janiszewska-Frączek spoke about the historical significance of the Constitution of May 3, as well as the Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad and Polish National Flag Day, both observed in May. She highlighted their symbolic importance and their role in fostering a sense of national community.
During the reception, guests also enjoyed an exhibition featuring the award-winning artworks from the art competition "The Colours of Poland in Folk Costumes," organized by the Consular and Polish Diaspora Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sofia. Children and young people living in Bulgaria created paintings using various artistic techniques, depicting a woman and a man dressed in traditional Polish folk costumes. The exhibition attracted considerable interest among the guests, evoking positive emotions and fostering a deeper appreciation of traditional Polish attire as an important part of the country’s cultural heritage.
Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of traditional Polish culinary specialties and beverages, specially prepared for the celebration.
